A friend of mine just forwarded me an e-mail from the Head of Intelligence and Business Continuity at the Canary Wharf Group. I'm assuming that they are the company that hold the lease on the Canary Wharf complex, or part of it. Anyways, here's the body of the e-mail:
"The Metropolitan Police have informed us that a bomb warning has been received in which it is stated that an IED would detonate in London in the next 24hrs. An authenticated code word was supplied with the warning. No precise time or specific location was given.
At this stage it is not known whether this is a credible threat. However, as a precautionary measure, we have increased our vigilance across the estate and are considering further security enhancements.
We are in communication with the Metropolitan Police and SO15 Counter Terrorism Command and will advise you immediately when new information is available."
That e-mail is about twenty minutes old. Has anyone else heard anything else about this?
Could just be a load of bollocks, but I'd imagine that they are considering this credible, because they wouldn't be going around warning people that work in the area.

arent there always bomb threats in london? i mean every time i've been down that way theres always been somewhere closed off due to a bomb scare

Well that's kind of my point. There's probably hundreds a month - but during my five years of working in London, we never once received e-mails like this. The Met Police having obviously got in touch with the real estate holders, advising them to warn people that work in the area.
Edit:
Another friend just e-mailed me to say he got this e-mail this morning:
"Been informed by someone high up at the Met that they're on high alert for a bomb threat in London today before 2200hrs. All leave has been cancelled and they are taking it very seriously. No idea how much truth in it but passing it on."

wow this is really shocking, spreading the word as much as possible. I wonder if it really was received from an Irish group. I think if they said it was from Al Queda there might be a bit of a racial backlash too soon.

I know nobody has said "IRA" just yet but I'm gonna assume that if it is irish it'll have something to do with the IRA, but my question is; why are they attacking us? What have we done to the irish?

i get the impression they arent too happy with british rule..

yeah but that was years ago, why target the innocents of today that don't even know/care about those days and just want to move on?

let's be honest every country has got a bad history with another at some point. It's not like we send terrorists out to germany and they're the ones that reduced large parts of london to rubble.

difference is, Germany dont own us, perhaps if they did there would be some of us who would go to those extremes...
the issues in NI are (not just) but mainly down to the fact we own northern ireland still. the dissidents want it back, they dont want british rule and there are those extremists amongst them that will go to these lengths
at least thats what i hear is the long and short of it.
