I wanted to point out this. If you plan on buying the dvd/bluray its legal to download the movie from the web, if you have the movie you still can.
Oh and whispering, you have the wrong bluray player, most players will remember where you are at even after you shutdown the player, depending on how old your player is the load time might be shit.

Yea with some discs. I've done some research on this, if it was the player, i would just replace it. However that isn't the case.

I agree, but i think many are watching too expensive TV's. According to this site, Full HD and regular DVD will look the same on an 40" TV if your viewing distance is ~10-12 feet.
I just hate it that they couldn't just settle with making it (DVD) better. They had to add all sorts of questionable things to the mix.

I haven't had any trouble with my blu-ray, tbh, all I've noticed is it's a bloody expensive DVD considering the change it brings. New blu-rays here cost 25 euros, when a new DVD costs 15. Waste of money.

It really just has to do with the storage, and because it's new, just like any newer technology really coming out into the market.
A regular two sided DVD can only hold 9.4GB of information; a dual-layered Blu-Ray disc can hold 50GB of information on the disc.

hmm i'm curious as well. is there a real difference between the quality of a PS3 compared to a blu ray player?

WHAT? In what state are you allowed to download a copy of something you own, when you're not even allowed to make a backup? I thought USA had the most shittiest copy laws of all.
In Sweden, it's illegal to download something, even if you own a physical copy. It's legal to make a backup copy, as long as there's no copy-theft protection on the disc (bypassing that is illegal).
