*Soren pulls strychnine's head off the wall*
Dude, you broke the wall... wow. Remind me not to get in a fight with you :D
quote: if a genre of music has developed over time, becoming more refined and whatnot, is it not valid for one to then rethink his/her assessment of that genre, taking into account the considerable changes that have occurred?
Sure, but not when you seperately bash the same "refined" elements in another genre like Viv did. And even if Mixmag has changed their assessment of HHC they still owe an appology. At least IMO, but I'm wrong a lot so whatever. And I don't even care anymore since the Mixmag people are no longer here and I think I've gotten my point across.
quote: A lot of house-heads and trance-addicts are *******s and mean people, keen to jump on any genre or subgenre that isn't the
Your post got cutoff. That sucks. That's happened to me 3 times in this thread alone... luckily I only had to rewrite one message. I agree with you, a lot of people are mean and do suck. I was just trying to make Mixmag accountable for their actions. Does it matter? Not really. It's just the principal of the thing that bugs me. But again, this thread is burned out and I think the "Mixers" left so meh.

^^ OK you missed the gist of my post, so here it is in a nutsack: I'm an economic realist. IMO morals have no place in these kinds of issues. Being how I am, I can't help but agree with whatever Mixmag decides is in the best interests of their customers. The choices, then, are (1) we can all buy the mag and become a significant minority in voicing our concerns, or (2) boycott the magazine and have shit-all say in what gets published.

blimey! This one's run and run. I dunno, I go away for 2 days (on a boring finance course, as us corporate whores do) and it's still kicking off.
OK, here goes (sigh)
1. we're not printing an apology. Get over it
2. boycott the mag if you like. doesn't bother me. Either you like it or you don't, so that's fine. I only want people who like Mixmag to buy it obviously.
3. we've written one article and given away one cd (sorry, didn't hear the 'thanks it was great' there). Imagine how much you'd hate me if I did a hardcore cover....now there's a thought.....

i couldnt really give a flyin fukc if you apologise or not,
as for the cd it was good, but the credit for that should be brisk and storm ant the producers of the tracks surely???
the only reason it was on is that you were 'jumping on the bandwagon' because hardcore is gaining popularity again.
what was the course really on?
hypocricy?
; )

Yeah, coorporate white wash... same old same old. You're too good for everyone cause you can still make the "mad cash". Money makes the world go round I guess. Remember kiddies, if you can't make money off of it then it's not worth doing and as long as you can make loads of money then you can't do anything wrong. I'd like to be nicer to Mixmag, but that just doesn't make economic sense so I'll have to stick to reality. Darn.
"And I think to myself, what a wonderful world" -Some ignorant bastard that needs to wake up to reality.
Heh, I crack me up :D

Yeah, I know. Deep down inside all companies are out to make everyone happy, not to make money. Cause money is bad and making people happy is good. Obviously.

It really is that hard to just say you're sorry and admit that you might (just might) be wrong huh? That's very sad. I feel sorry for you.

ahhh.. I've just read the whole thing, before I add my brief 2 cents, let me just say Soren and strychnine, I see where you are both coming from. Your both right, because the issue u've finnaly whittled it down to is how you think things should be :)
Now.. onto the source of that heated (yet wondeful, well written and witty :D) debate, viv.
Viv, you had my respect right until that last comment... god damn that is just so low. I wasn't taking it personnaly until then.
I've seen your mag the shelfs, and it's looking ****ing shit. There, that pop at you mag is just as cheap as some of you comments, and just as weak as your arguments.
While the cashing in is a part of capitalism and money in general (strychnine, kinda ure point? :S) It's still just so so cheap to do what u've done, so blatatnly cashed in because you can smell the cash. You've done it, you've probabaly made a fair bit of cash of us, but it's no wonder people have got angry about it.
Your mag, and the comments in the this forum has left it as 'us' and 'you'. I know you don't want to be a HH mag... but people will never read that feeling that they are reading balanced comments from like minded individuals (no doubt because ure going for the highest profit from the mainstream moron population -_-)
Your not going to apoligise, fine, I don't care I don't and won't ever read you mag, you don't care about that.
What I do care is abou you trying to say your on the level, and try to in anyway disguise your just cashing on a hopefully passing trend - so hardcore can stay good and underground.

Cool. I'm not against capitalism at all, I think it's great. But I am against this take no prisoners kind of capitalism that's consumed the world. Where no matter what you do, no matter how many people you kill, no matter how many children starve to death each month because of your actions it just doesn't matter cause you can still make money. This whole Mixmag thing is a great representation of that kind of capitalist greed and ignorance, just on a smaller scale. But that's just my opinion and I think most people don't agree with me so that's cool. I do totally see your point, but IMO tading money for morals is never a good thing, but again I guess I'm the only one. Yaayyy, i'm in a minority group!!!!!! Maybe now I can get some government cash! :D
I realize that there has to be an economic reality. It's just that in the current geo-political/coorporate world the reality is that if you make money you are allowed free reign to lie, kill, and maim as you wish. And I think that needs to change.
quote: (1) we can all buy the mag and become a significant minority in voicing our concerns, or (2) boycott the magazine and have shit-all say in what gets published.
But we bought the mag (well not me, but a lot of people) and we have no say. Neither do the vast amount of progressive kids that buy the mag and are now having their scene bashed. I don't think Mixmag gives a damn who buys it as long as it sells and I won't for a second assume that if we are nice and buy the mag that we'll get a voice cause no other scene that's ever purchased it has gotten a fair say once Mixmag has deemed their scene unworthy for whatever reason.

oh shit, I think I just logged onto the Marxist Hardcore message board by mistake
Do you think I own Emap Plc? I get paid to do a job I love. Obviously my company's aim is to make money, but if all I cared about was making cash, I'd get a job with top pay. I do this coz I love it, and the fact that I work on a big magazine that a lot of people read is better than working on a small one that a few people read.

LOL, way to avoid all of my (and everyone elses) statements. You haven't addressed one thing anyone has said except to say you'll never appologize. You know why? Cause you can't, cause you're in the wrong and you know it. Why don't you just try and sling some more insults our way instead of dealing with peoples topics.
Marxism: a theory and practice of socialism including the labor theory of value, dialectical materialism, the class struggle, and dictatorship of the proletariat until the establishment of a classless society
Socialism: a system of society or group living in which there is no private property b : a system or condition of society in which the means of production are owned and controlled by the state (silver)
So you are saying we are an internet society with no private property and a classless structure, under absolute rule of Silver? OK, that we are. And?
Viv you keep spouting lies and moronic statements, you really make yourself look like an ass. I mean it's funny and all, but c'mon either address the issues or shove off. We don't need your holier-than-thou attitude around here, welcome to marxism. You aren't better than everyone else and you aren't right, both in what you've said (and completely not said) and your attitude. You are a very condescending and irrational person. I think you need to grow up a little bit and embrace reality....
quote: ps. charlie did kill rave
Here's a Mixmag quote for ya:
"it was toytown records such as Smart E's 'Sesame's Street' that propelled rave towards the chino-wearing, beer-swilling high street."
So according to your own mag you're wrong. RTFMagazine much? Guess not.
Then when Prodigy blew up Mixmag printed a retraction and said:
"Oops. Sorry boys, we love you really."
Yeah, now that they were the #1 techno act in the world you love them. Viv you have got to be one of the most ignorant people I've ever had the good fortune of scolding. Oh, and just for your information rave isn't dead you just don't cover it anymore. But I guess in your egocentric/deluded mind that means it's dead.
