dude Me and my buddy donovan had a discussion oncee whether techno was a lame ass term for alot of types of music or wether it was a type of music in itself. That made me start to think.......Ive read a book before saying that techno is a type of music.....its more freeform to a degree. Not in the sense of freeform jazz but more like big beat compared to your average break beatz. Its similar to trance in a way in having an ability to travel freely throughout the musical spectrum while confines loossely by a 4/4 signature.....

techno is most definately a distinct form of music. it's hard to define as it's probably as broad as hardcore in its varieties, from acid techno (sometimes around 160bpm) based on acid lines, some techno is evil, some is funky, some is alot slower, nearly all of it is very progressive. someone will probably be able to give a better explanation than me but hey. try to get a set mixed by jeff mills he's probably one of the most internationally famous and recognised tech djs.

Techno iiiiiis DEFIANTELY a genre on its own.
Mauro Picotto (u gotta of heard of him?) is prob the most famous tech DJ. his style changes soooo much, u never know what 2 expect from 1 of his sets

Well, I'm with Pacman....it's like hardcore such a wide variety of techno.
Mauro Picotta.....I havent heard lot's of his stuff but from what I have heard it sounds a lot more like trance than techno to me.

i dont really consider picotto as techno... hes a little too trancey....
i think stuff like keoki & carl cox is techno.

yeah i always thought techno was a term used by people to describe dance electronic music...usually they are people who don't like and don't listen to dance lol
but yeah they hav detroit techno too
