Hi,
I just recorded my first hhc mix! The quality is a little sketchy 'cause it was a minidisc to wav to mp3 to real audio conversion. I got my first hhc vinyl last month and this mix is pretty much all the hhc I have so far. Any comments, constructive criticism, scathing reviews etc? Let me know. Also, I think only 3 people can stream this at the same time so if it doesn't work, wait a while and try again.

listening now will post summit in a bit .....
the actually real audio makes it hard to hear if its beatmatched etc, altho sounds ok, but sketchy in some mixes tho, but its good.
Tune wise, very happy style i like altho the anthem after anthem sorta playlist can tend to get a bit boring if ya know what i mean, but dont take this to heart as i aint the best person at judging mixes, so no hate mail lol

For a first mix congrats mate!
I know mine didn't sound that good, the beatmatchin was all over the place!
A few things tho...
Try and make your crossovers a bit smoother(It'll come with time), but the main thing you can do to improve the sound of your crossovers is the EQ's.
Try not to drop heavy bass over more heavy bass! Turn the bass down on the incoming tune a quarter of a turn - then when you want to emphasise the new tune turn it up and the outgoing down(unless the bass drops out at the end)
Same goes for the other eq's, but I found the bass definately make's the most difference.
Do you listen to many hardcore sets? I'd recommend you get Absolute hardcore 2000, it's got 7 cd's of the type of stuff you're trying to mix. Try and get into the flow of the sets - I'm with djtommyrenegade on this. Anthem after anthem can be boring as hell, and I'm afraid Heart of Gold at the start is enough to have people turning off by the droves....(even though I have it I rarely use it!)
I've got a Force and Styles set from a Helter Skelter in '97, which I've been meaning to record for ages(Just in case something takes a dislike to the tape!) I'll gladly let ya have a copy to listen. It's the best set I've heard.
Lol - I just remembered it finishes with heart of gold! (me and my big mouth)
Anyone else want it-drop me an email. [email protected]
BTW I've been listening as I type - some of the mixes towards the end sound a lot better 8) Hardcore vibes is such a tune...I think once you learn the tunes inside out you'll have no problem, you can certainly beatmatch which is half the battle. What setup did you use?
I'm sure one of the mods or bods can tell ya the best way to record your sets..As the bass on Hardcore Vibes and Forever Young are badly clipped.
Mine sound alright, but I'm afraid I could do with some pointers on recording too.
Though a new sound card wouldn't go amiss.

Thanks a lot for the suggestions Raist/Renegade. I know the tracklist is a little over the top with all the anthems but those are the first hhc records I've bought so far. Figured I'd start by getting all the tracks I recognize and can't live without :)
Also, the only hhc sets I've really heard are the Happy 2B Hardcore series and some downloaded Anabolic Frolic Hullabaloo sets. I've been going to records stores here (Wisconsin, USA) for about 4 years and haven't come across a single hhc record, or any mixtapes for that matter.
As far as recording setup, I'm using 2 old Vestax PDX-D3's and a Gemini UMX-9 scratch mixer with Pickering DJ carts. I recorded straight from the line out of the mixer into my minidisc player and then recorded from the md player into my soundcard line in. I think the clipping was my fault though because my levels always get higher and higher the longer I mix, something I really have to watch.
Does anyone have any suggestions as far as what artists/labels are good if I want to stay away from the whole anthemy sound? Afraid I don't know much about the state of hhc right now.
Thanks,
nihal

Gus,
The only thing I can think of is that there were already 3 people listening at the same time. It can only stream 3 at a time so I'd try again later.

think you could up the pitch a bit? feels slow for hardcore, but then again seeing as how the only sets you've heard are frolic's I can understand =P

Welcome to the boards nihal. Not a bad first attempt. I would agree that you should try using the EQ's a bit to make the mixes a little smoother.
Keep up the good work!

Hi!
Thanks for the tips.
DJ Hoekzema, I'll definitely look into those labels. I'll try to keep away from the anthemy sound from now on. I got a Scott Brown record from phusion today with kind of a cool sound, little bit gabber, little bit happy. I think I'll try to find more like that one.
