Realistically you'll need some draw before you can start getting bookings overseas - the cost of flight is just too high for promoters to book you just because you're good. However, don't lose hope - save your pennies, make contacts with promoters abroad, and pay your own way down to countries and make sure the promoters know you're coming. International talent is hard to resist for any promoter, so you'll most likely get picked up for gigs. Enough gigs will equal enough money to pay off your ticket and hopefully a bit extra. I know a couple of people who have done this.
Canadian promoters accept demos from MCs, and MCs are active out here. Typically they're pretty tight with the HHC dj they mc for, so you may want to work some networking with the djs where you want to go, so when you get there everyone's your friend and will be interested in letting you MC for them.
Hope that helps :-)

Depending on how much extra an MC will cost me, I'm usually pretty carefree about booking them - basically if one of the djs on my lineup is willing to trust you enough to MC over their set, that's good enough for me. That's why it'd be a good idea to hook up with all the locals via the internet.
Another good trick is bringing talent to you - ie get in touch with a dj with relative name from far away and make a deal where you get to mc for him if you can manage to secure him some gigs with the local promoters.
Peace
