No not at all, my point is that I'm scared that he will "change" and the UN will be like "Oh he's promised to be good now, lets take his word for it" while his people are slaughtered like cattle :|

I don't even think the UN is that stupid, not saying they're not stupid though. No one would stand for that, not after everything he's already done. Even Russia and China, permanent members of the UN Security Council who could EASILY veto such a move, didn't.

I didnt mean the intervention of the UN. There is a civil war going on between Cyrenaica and Tripolitania.

amazing how another country with vasts amount of oil gets UN involvement, but places like Zimbabwe are left to its own devices!

http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b010jt81/HARDtalk_Moussa_Ibrahim_Libyan_Government_Spokesman/

that - is just feeding my suspicions about the press involvment in all this. the guy does seem quite genuine and makes some very very good points

Our Home secretary (Thomas de Maizire) said one month ago:
"[...] We said 'No' (intervention) very often to bad, murderous campaigns against own population. We were not in Uganda. We were not in Sudan. We are not in Cote d'Ivoire. What about Yemen and Bahrain? Can we suddenly intervene only because of the oil Libya has? We cannot eliminate all dictators around the world with international warfare. And we also did not court Gaddafi like other countries did.[...]"

This is exactly how I see it, too.

yeah the oil thing doesnt really stack up, libya's contribution to the total oil in the middle east is something pathetic like 2%, its not worth it - if we want oil its better to go for the saudi's :P

the reason we're in there is because practically everyone in the UN bar 2 or 3 abstainee's said we should help - and we're barely doing that! ;)

Once again I completely skip the purpose of a thread to nitpick.

Wrong. A war can exist without being officially 'declared'. It just means there is less paperwork.
When guns are firing, tanks are rolling and planes are dropping bombs, that is pretty clear evidence that a war is in progress

Cool, you also skipped over the part where I said technical. Technically congress hasn't declared a war since World War II. Does that make the wars we are currently in less real? No. Way to skip over the point.

Tripolis got under the control of the Libyan population finally. Gaddafi either is locked into a bunker in Tripolis or fled to the desert.
Anyway, this guy thankfully is screwed. I know about the possibilities of radicalisations in all these muslim regions, but the current statuses simply were enough.
I mean: Gaddafi has been in charge for 42 years: that's unhealthy for every community.
