Normally I wouldn't go off about something like this, but this situation has greatly affected me and I need to get it off of my chest. I was booked to play a party this past Saturday. I showed up at the venue ( a small club ) to find very few people inside, and a DJ spinning House and Two-step. While the people were dancing, they did NOT look the type for HHC. I spoke to the promoter, and she assured me that the place would fill up before my slot (

Sorry, some of the story didn't post. Anyway, I spoke to the promoter, and she assured me that "the ravers don't show up untill after 12:00". The place did fill up, and I hit the decks at 12:30. It started immediately, people crowded around the booth shouting things like "This is f*g music!" at me. This continued for a bit, and then it happened. One of these thugs gets into the booth and pours his beer on my records, and hits me in the shoulder ( he was aiming for my head) with a bottle. To sum things up...
-I now have a case full of ruined records
-I have a broken wrist and a few broken fingers
-I'm going to have to pay for this guy's reconstructive surgery
-Worst of all, I am considering giving this stuff up for good. I have always been ridiculed for my love of HHC, but nothing like this has ever happened before. Apologies for this rant, I just needed to get ot out of my head.

This is the worst story I have ever heard, I would talk to the promotor and ask what the story is, I would not pay for the other guys surgery that is for sure. Where was the promotor when all this happened anyway?

If you really want to get technical you can sue the promotor and the club for not supplying security or allowing this to happen.

Put all your beer'ed records in water (it's ok for the record), might damage your label a little but better than sticky records.

And the moral of the story is:

Alcohol is horrible and if you know a venue is getting people smashed on the horrid substance then don't go. I don't. I've seen multiple fights at the local "techno" club cause of drunk a-holes like that and I've been challanged to fight twice (I went about 6 times total). Once cause "i dressed funny" and once cause I was in line to get my jacket and I got in the way of some drunk frat guy that came up behind me and just plowed into me. Alcohol + people = bad.

djnateking: that's really f***ed man. i agree with what everyone else here has said - take it up with the promoters, get your records de-beered and get back on the decks. don't let s*** like this knock you down.

Soren: I think the problem's more to do with the people than the substance. I've been to heaps of places where electronic music has been played and alcohol has been drunk and for the most part, everyone's just out to have a good time and the vibe is great. Alcohol's no more or less evil than any other 'party' drugs.

if he has to get reconstructive surgery and u walked away w/ ur broken fingers and wrist, i'd hate to see how badly he got his ass kicked =) but thats' is bs what he did, and going out there and staying commited to the scene is the best way to say u love what u do and nothing is going to stop u

tis very sad to hear news like this.
Talk to your lawyer. U had to protect yourself and u did that. Be sure to go after the promoter/venue owner cause they HAVE to provide security to protect u and the people there...where were they in all this? :P
But please don’t give up on the hardcore because of this.

As a side...whatever happened to the idea of PLUR in the rave scene? Or how about just respect for your fellow man/woman in general???
I've heard the odd story of fights in the big clubs/raves in the UK :( and in a few places in the states, and I remember there was a stabbing at one of the hullabaloos last year in TO :(.
I have NEVER seen a fight at a party here. For the most part everyone is very friendly (part of what i love about going to parties). Are there a lot of fights in the rave scene around the globe?

wot i would do is sue the club promoter she obviously has no clue about her job surely it is to book the right dj 4 the night you did the right thing by speakin to her at the time and i think she should replace any damaged records and pey u compensation
iv had bad experiences while djin but nothin like that that is bang outta order stand up 4 urself and dont leave hhc cos of those w@nkers

I had my vinyl box on the shelf behind me once and it gave way completerl a few of em were broken an i just lost it completely with the club (it was a shit hole anyway) but they paid up.
