Hi, I've been Dj'ing (I know I may get in trouble for saying this :P) 'normal hardcore for about 8 months, and can do a pretty good job of mixing it now.

My friend recently got me KFA 'ancient sound of hardcore' Vol 1 and 2 and I must admit I'm having a bit of trouble - not with the beat matching, I can handle that, it's just that even when they are nicely setup the drums and stuff seem to clash . . . I'm guessing I'm missing something here?

Anyway any tips for mixing this kinda stuff much appricated.

try adjusting you're levels and doing more cuts of the mixed in record, atleast that's what i do to make it sound good =P

most of the tunes on there aren't good for doing long mixes so you have to actually work at making the mixes sound good =P

mixing older hardcore is alot harder, as theres not as much contstant structure throughout the tracks.. try not to make your mixes too long, because something will always come in =P and watch vocal samples, try not to overlap vocals.. a little more planning mght be in order

I mix breakbeat hardcore with more of a "hip hop" style (cutting, spinbacks, drag stops, etc.). As previously stated, breakbeat doesn't lend itself to long transitions.

yeah thats true, the older stuff is certainly alot harder to mix and you really need to know your tracks well. The newer KFA stuff however, are alot better structured with longer intros and outros for longer mixing. You have to be aware of the phasing aswell, some break beat tracks arent as straight forward as the 4 by 4 ones.
