there's one simple answer to your question. if you want to be a good dj, lots of practice is essential. NO djs just got there overnight. if you wanna be good, you wanna stand out, practice practice practice. it's the same with anything. alot of the best turntablists in the world go through the stages of practicing 10 hours a day....

i would recommend going shopping alot, listen to lots of different tracks, buy thestuff YOU want to buy, not the stuff that everyone else buys. get a few different styles (if you can afford it) and play around a bit. don't just stick to the normal djing style, try some weird abnormal mixing things and record them then ask yourself- does this sound like the kind of thing I would like to hear from a dj?? recording your mixes is one of the most helpful things in the world as it will let you know what sounds good, and what doesn't. when you're behnd the decks things sound alot different from when you're listening to it. and don't be disenchanted if you're listening to your mixing on a recording and it sucks... it's supposed to, everyone starts somewhere!! there's people out there who would've had decks for years who can't spin/mix or scratch as well as you after you've had them for a few weeks!!

but dont get into the illision that djing is all bout beatmatching. Effects and crowd pleasing is as important as beatmatching. Also playin choons that blend together as well other than just picking a record at random to slot in, oh and dont play anthem after anthem cos i've heard that can be very boring try and play choons the crowd may not have heard before
