I read it every time it goes active. I don't read it over and over and memorise the details, mind you, I just give the new posts a quick look-over just so's I know a bit about where the new names are coming from.
Also, keep in mind that the Intro thread was created for a reason, ie to cut down on the number of these 'newbie threads' popping up everywhere (and all the associated waffle that came with 'em).
ps ... welcome aboard, liquidstripes!

But.. then I thought that it would ruin my point in the first place, everyone would just pass it on and not reply.

I actually check out the Intro Thread everytime Im online in particular where they're from.

And i think its done its job well. Sure there are a few people who feel they have to be different and start their own intro thread, but for the most part most people use the intro thread.
If you dont read it, thats your decision, each to their own i guess

i also check it every time it goes active....
yes it is slightly impersonal, but hey alot of people don't stay on and post. the probem we were having was so many people had welcome threads going and then after that they'd never come back.. at least this way some of us get to know a little about them, if they wanna join in on the forum, they can, and some of us will know a bit about them, if they don't then they've only wasted one post. not only that, but (don't know if this is helpful or not?) it gives some sort of demographic of where people are coming from (geographically, age, old/new listeners, etc.).. BUT WAIT! there's more.....

not to mention, it allowed them to get their "what's everyone's favourite tune" threads out of the way. so not only do we not have to put up with countless amounts of welcome threads, we don't have nearly as many of these threads anymore (am i the only one who's noticed??)
in conclusion (god this takes me back haha) if you look at the number of registered users (between 6000 and 7000 now i believe!!!) compared to the number who actually post (probably less than 5% of that) you're cutting down alot of welcome threads, where we all just basically say 'hi' and get another post notched up on our stats...

its all well and good saying theres a newbie thread when we know and remember its incarnation, but i never search for a specific thread when i join forums. anyway of making it really really UBER obvious, cuz it is a good idea, just not when n00bs dont know where it is

-My 2 cents.. Personaly I dont like the introduction thread, honestly who reads it regulary? If im the only one who dosnt then Im mentally retarded. I never notice a new member these days, and they dont get the warm happyhardcore.com welcome reputation we have, the n00bs feel left back in the pack.
Well said Weba, Have looked once but never again.. i do agree that these intro threads are wrong but what can you do.. This place is so welcoming that you can't have a go can ya?!? Not that anyone has that is...
Oh.. I feel all warm and fuzzy in here

I Agree with the thread being here, BUT I seriously Toxic looks at it (hes a mod) and pacman states he does to (he being the one to create the thread.)
Im not trying to sturr up my mates here, Im just interested in hearing what everyone thinks, wer're onto a good topic here, do you think the newbies are being noticed?? maybe there is another solution to stop the block up of topic threads??

Thats the thing, whenever I check it, I read it fair enough, but its the same thing over and over, I dont remeber a thing when i see a new member posting with 20 posts to their name, Id rather be able to relate to them like old times.
But how can we fix that without the pointless Noob topics?
If I stumbled across this site and posted in the introduction thread I would feel that im now "welcomed" But I wont get the chance to post something that is reckonised by the rest of the forum, therefor you will miss the chance to be portrayed in the way you wish.

Too many problems being fixed in the one thread, the Favorite tune has always been a problem but when we acually get to post it in a single thread I find it enjoyable, dont you? Pacmans solution kills one of the many things that make a forum what it is, A place to experess personal comments with a comunity revolving in the same interest.
So gives us your thoughts how often have you read the introduction thread in the past? do you agree/dissagree? Do you sence that the newbies are being noticed? look at it from a new comers perspective.

Sorry welcome topic stays - I look at it, good to see where people are from, what tracks they like, what they think of HappyHardcore.com
The alternative is millions of welcome threads, which no one wants and everyone uses to get more posts and stars.
