Here is a mini log of what happened if your interested.
13:33 GST - The entire HappyHardcore.com member database was overwritten by mistake.
13:35 GST - I figure out what is going wrong and explode with the following remark in the chat room.
http://www.happyhardcore.com/forums/topic.asp?ARCHIVE=&TOPIC_ID=9966 13:36 GMT - HappyHardcore.com goes offline for the first time ever in 4 years. 13:40 GMT - We realize that our backup aint that new, we have two options, perge the database with the backup file and deleting the new accounts we dont have complete data on (1200+) OR attempting a recoverage from the transaction log (which at the time I believe to be impossible due to the nature of the mistake) 13:xx GMT - We start testing a few ideas running a few recovery options. 14:xx GMT - Finally agree upon recovering from the transaction log, but still unsure if it would work. 15:2x GMT - Start to recover from the transation log, process took over 40 mins to complete 16:xx GMT - Query build, backup crappy data in case we have to do a purge anyway. This takes 40 mins as well. 17:xx GMT - Execute the recover and start the new import, import takes 10 mins 18:xx GMT - Start testing all the data in the database to see if there are any problems or if the thing even worked. 18:xx GMT - It worked! Well at least it looks like it did... Grabbed a few regulars in the chat room to help out testing... Pull HappyHardcore.com back online... All say OK. 18:50 GMT - I write this message in the forums. All in all, we only lost 1 member account (I don't know which one - probally a new one - sorry if it was you!). Phew... We are all lucky today. As per usual, please please report any problems in this thread. __________________________________ it's all hardcore.

Maybe this was all just an elaborate hoax, devised with the sole purpose of getting rid of him...

I didn't quite understand what was happening. One minute I was posting, the next thing, the error.
I was trying to trace the route to the server, but I though a flood of ICMP's is not what you need when you are trying to start up a broken server.
Err, how does one overwritten the member database??

I would not really call this recovering from a backup, something happened yesterday that I can't explain and the data magically was recovered I still can't believe I managed to get it back.
It was overwritten because when I was changing something, the server excuted a command that was only half built, the half it did not excute was the half telling it which records to overwrite, without that half it over wrote the entire DB.
