Something different from regular TV? I like it the same reason i like e.g. scifi or Korean romantic melodramas. I just do :P

I've probably watch too much anime 'cause that doesnt really disturb me. Just "the way it has always been" (concerning fan service).

Anyway, i deleted most image tags from the first 3 pages. No reason to load every image everytime someone hits reply.

I liked Anime from watching it when I was younger. It was pretty good for awhile then I lost a lot of interest in it. I watch some of them still, but ones that are more serious and not throwing lame jokes every three seconds and overly stupid fighting. So basically, like two.

And yes, I agree with Latin. They make all these schoolgirls that are supposed to be like 17 and younger with gigantic tits, short skirts, etc. etc. It really is ****ed up, but considering the Japanese look on it it doesn't surprise me. I watched some thing on TV saying Japan has one of the HIGHEST amounts of sex in public through media, but yet have the lowest amount of sex.

I actually too lost interest in it. For about 3 years i hardly watched any anime. This year started buying some series again. And its good again.

The gigantic tits archetype is actually usually a more mature women, at least in the series I've watched. Though I've seen some series where everyone has huge jugs, and it just looks ridiculous. I don't think that it has to be overly realistic, it is cartoons after all. But just going completely over the top isn't good either.

Personally i think a little bit of fan service is good. It can be funny or just sexy. Its the same for me with regular movies. Hell, its the only thing that makes movies like this watchable :P

Maybe their trying to compensate for the lack of sex?

I like anime, but I avoid ecchi. I tried watching ecchi when High School Of The Dead came out... I thought it was pretty stupid tbh. Tits in your face and stupid... horny shit is stupid.

I watch romance anime because I'm lame like that. I also never really watch anything shounen (guy anime) so I guess I avoid all the stupid sexual appeals and useless fights. I love a good love story. *shrug*

Also disregarding S3RL, this was my first encounter with Hardcore. Fits it perfectly, like Warnman said.

There r 3 sorts of ecchi:

1. Based around comedy - used as a comedic element, still requires a good plot, known as softcore, and here Ecchi is mostly a side-element. No boobs in heads and stuff. It's for both boys and girls.
2. Based around perverse - hot, for guys and doesn't require a good plot. Hilarious if you like that sort of humor, but mostly dumb.
3. Combined 1+2 - combinations in various proportions.

There's no reason 2 avoid Ecchi. Anime are usually pumped with genres and Ecchi can be just one of the smaller elements.

Also, theres absolutely no reason to avoid sort-1 Ecchi, it's nothing but comedy. Zero no Tsukaima is sort-1 ecchi and it's one of the best animes I've watched (if you like wizardry and stuff). Akane Iro ni Somaru Saka is really softcore. To Aru Majutsu no Index also contains sort-1 Ecchi with Yuri.

To Love-Ru is Sort 2 but not too hardcore.

I also watch/watched too much anime. I really don't care about ecchi stuff. Loli is messed up and it makes everybody who watches anime look bad. Also Weeaboos are the worst and most repulsive people ever.

If you want a good "starter" anime watch "Code Geass" It really has a bit of everything in it and it makes you think

The first Anime I ever watched was Fooly Cooly (FLCL). After that I started watching .Hack//Sign, and then it just kinda all blended into others which I never really finished watching. This includes Cowboy Bepop, I think like four Gundam series (so many, wtf), and others I can't remember the name of.

Anime is cool, I watch anime but not so much anymore. I've been watching the more popular stuff like Pokemon and doraemon and stuff for as long as I can remember, a couple of years back I was so into anime it was crazy. I've seen most of the interesting series already, what gets released nowadays really sucks compared to what came out in 2007 IMO. I watch more american cartoons than anime at the moment because I just think they're much better and funnier. If anime picks up again I might start watching it, but once you notice all the tropes and different cliches that make up an anime it really kills it.

There are some utterly amazing series out there though with some awesome writing, and then there's just horrendous, horrendous formulaic awfulness whether it's monster of the week stuff or just over-sexualisation everywhere, or what annoyed me the most were the visual novel/dating simulation games that got turned into anime and have the most generic plots ever, this STILL goes on today.

EDIT: I agree with latin as well, even in the non-ecchi stuff there are almost always sexual undertones and it's VERY annoying IMO because it just makes everything lack credibility, there is a very deep reason for this rooted in Japanese culture and history and passed down over centuries, it's not just limited to anime or any media..it's almost part of the culture. I think Japanese culture is a bit marmite-ish for some people, you either love it or you hate it.

They've always been there, and their there because its essentially why people like them. Naturally the series has to hold on its own and not just stand on cliches. But cliches aren't bad IMO.

Don't know if the current series are bad though. I usually buy complete series, and when their some what cheap. So far this year i've watched, Gravion, Kanon, Coyote Ragtime Show, Air, Starship Operators, Galaxy Railways (havent finished it though), Jinki:Extend, Str.A.In. and i'm currently watching Clannad. Apparently the newest one of those is from 2007 :p

it gets a bit of an old hat after a while though. I used to do nothing but sit indoors and watch anime, I went through literally hundreds of series and it wore very thin after a while.

Oh no this thread is now about anime. I stopped watching anime years ago and it all works out since now that I'm in animation school it's taboo anyway. I wish I hadn't spent so many years drawing anime but hey, live and learn.
