You have a right to be annoyed and to have your opinion about things like that. You magnified pretty much, and you didn't say you watched anime, so I considered you a person who doesn't watch it but dislike it believing the rumours like the most of the world's people. I'm sorry I misunderstood you.
I don't know what you see on the TV, but it'd be quite disappointing if they played so many perverted anime. I'm in internet anime scene and I can agree many normal anime have 1 or few slight "moments" that are not even worth mentioning. Also, so far it seemed to me there are more female than male anime fans (if u exclude Hentai) and they are straight.
Some things people can find perverted, like short skirts, are Japanese norms. And they ain't that short, neither in reality nor normal anime.
Anime is something normal, with influence of Japanese culture and norms. Differences from mainstream shows are minor. You have Action Stuff, Horror stuff, perverted stuff, Romance stuff, Comedy stuff, serious plot-less stuff, Tragedies... pretty much everything.
Spreading the rumours born by the prejudices (started on the way I have already explained) is harmful: it makes us be considered freaks and other people be afraid of anime sharing the same prejudice, like: "Ewww, you watch anime? :S" I'm sorry if you consider me an ass, I'm not trying to be one and I don't wanna insult anybody, but I am defending something good from being rumoured bad, since it's worth defending. And anime is not the only thing I'd defend - example: EDM has been considered a druggie "bumpa-dumpa" no-music, Hardcore either porn or something dark and depressive, Metal (that I don't even care about) has been considered freaks' music, and Vatican pronounced all the rock bands Satanists excommunicating them from the Church, and still hasn't changed it's mind.
All that because of prejudices and prejudice-supportive rumours.
