Don't jump into a hissy fit yet silver, its not about file sharing....

This is about what mp3's/wma's/ogg's whatever can do to the scene.

Personally I think they can be good or bad depending on the person.

I reckon they're great for people to get a juicy sample of a track, or to listen to some hardcore (for possibly the first time)

What do you think?

MP3 are like drugs... abuse them and it damages everything... but there are excellent uses for MP3s, I get demo's sent to me via MP3, the radio is streaming MP3's and buying records is no longer a hit and miss problem anymore.

Trading MP3's is just wrong, you are stealing and there is no excuse for it. I have heard all the arguements, if you look hard enough for can buy anything on the internet and you don't need to download.

This is one reason why we play brand new material on the radio so that you can hear all the tunes there, it will never go away so you don't have to worry.

Of course trading illegal mp3s isn't cool... but mp3's are great (because of availability, filesize, and quality) for distributing my own original material... trading mp3's between other artists / bands is also cool, as long as both parties own the rights to whatever they're giving away...

I think mp3's for small(er) types of music, can really help advertise and produce a bigger fan base for it, I'm sure of it.

Mp3s are gonna be here for a long time so i guess what is the harm, as long as it doesn't improve (quality wise) to the extent of cds and vinyl otherwise the music will hardly ever be bought and the future of hardcore is jepardised!

Though i have quite a few MP3s of the puter, have nearly all the originals on cd also for when i really wanna listen

HARDCORE FOREVER
if video games affected us as children, then we would all be running around in dark rooms, munching magical pills and dancing to repetitive music!

I have alot of mp3's also, i usually rip them, and put them on a cd to listen in my player. I have bonkers 8, 9, and 10 all on one cd. (BUT i dont trade them, let people download them or anything). I just have them so i dont have to take 9 cd's with me, instead i take 1.

When I post, i shoud really be sleeping.

I'm all for Mp3s , they are the best way of discovering music, especially obscure stuff. Yeah, they may damage the industry, because you can convert them and transfer them to cd, but thats a good thing, because it ensure the overpaid shit peddlers and untalented artists in the pop music industry lose money, and also the mp3s are allowing even the most narrowly educated mainstream people explore outside the big labels and the charts more. My view is not politically correct, but it's my true view.

As for how mp3s affect hardcore and other such genres, there is not many of us who can afford a vinyl cutter, therefore mp3s probally have little effect on hardcore. It might harm compilations though.

My use of mp3s, is to download a few of an artists tracks, if not all of them, if i like it, buy the cd, if it's shit, I don't. I no longer buy copied cds off dodgy traders unless it has been deleted and is no longer produced. I'd say IMO records has a good system, of producing small mp3 samples, because it's like going into a record shop, listening to the vinyl, except that it is an online alternative. MP3s are good as long as the talented artists are gaining recognition and good pay from it, and not losing out financially.
